Finally Priyadarshan announced his next Mohanlal movie – ‘Marakkar: The Lion of Arabian Sea’

Putting an end to confusions, Priyadarshan has finally announced his next project with Mohanlal – Marakkar: The Lion of Arabian Sea. The 25th production venture of ‘Aashirvad Cinemas’, the title of the project was unveiled in a grand function. Backed by a huge budget, the movie would be co produced by ‘Confident Group’. Reportedly, the budget of this dream project of Priyadarshan – Mohanlal combo would cross well over INR 100 Cr. During the function, Priyadarshan made it clear that they would start shooting of the movie from November 1 onwards. According to the plans, the movie would complete the shooting in three months of time, following which would start a rather long post production phase.

Amidst launched with much buzz, ‘Marakkar: The Lion of Arabian Sea’ is thus going to be made on an extraordinarily huge canvas. Artists from various languages – Tamil, Telugu, British, Portuguese and Chinese – would make their presence felt in this project. Essentially a movie set against the backdrop of sea pirates in 15th century, ‘Marakkar’ deals with the legendary life of Kunjali Marakkar. While speaking during the function, Priyadarshan said that, the project was not the outcome of an overnight dream. He mentioned that in the past, he had even discussed the project with late. T Damodaran Master. The veteran director seems all excited on the project, as he predicted ‘Marakkar’ going to become one of the greatest turning points of his entire career.

Earlier, Megastar Mammootty – Santhosh Sivan duo had announced their project ‘Kunjali Marakkar’. Back then, Mollywood was experiencing a tensed state, since Priyadarshan too had expressed his wish to direct a project on the life of the legendary figure. Well, Priyadarshan subsequently backed off from his plan, and said that he does not want to create an unnecessary competition in the industry. He, however commented that he would bootstrap his project, had if the Mammootty – Santhosh Sivan project did not commence shooting within eight months of announcement. Well, it has to be seen how this latest development is going to change the course of affair in Malayalam cinema.
